Recycling is a Greener alternative to disposal

Computers become obsolete very fats and their disposal pose a huge threat to the environment since a typical computer processor or a monitor generates lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium compounds which are very toxic. Municipalities of New England initiated reuse and recycling of computer wastes by collecting the waste. Since July 2006, it became illegal to dispose computer monitors or televisions in Maine.

Computer recycling in Maine requires the consumer, municipality and the manufacturer have to ensure that computers and televisions are disposed off in an environmental friendly way. There are three alternative solutions to disposal; they are reduce, reuse and recycle.

As of April 1, 2000, television and computer monitors were banned from waste disposal facilities in Massachusetts. Cathode ray tubes, present in television and computer monitors present a heath risk as it contains lead. Computer recycling MA was very expensive initially. However, there are many charity organizations and municipal drop off centers which collect the waste at a minimal fee now.

In April 2006, video display devices which include television and computer monitors were banned from landfills and incinerators in New Hampshire. Computer recycling New Hampshire however is a ‘greener’ alternative. Consumers are required ot pay a small amount if they decide to drop off their computer and televisions sets at specific centers.
